What is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

The Saint Vincent de Paul Society is a renowned international Catholic lay organization, established in 1833, dedicated to embodying and sharing the boundless love of Christ. With a steadfast commitment to faith in action, the Society reaches out to those burdened by suffering and need, offering hope, compassion, and practical support. Through its global network, it serves as a beacon of light and charity, tirelessly working to uplift the most vulnerable and ensure that the transformative power of Christ’s love touches lives in profound and meaningful ways.

Ready Renter Program Accepting Applications

The Cape Cod Ready Renter Program general waitlist is now open and accepting applications.

The general waitlist is used exclusively to fill 75 scattered-site affordable rental units in Yarmouth, Dennis, Barnstable and Falmouth. Units include studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom units. Units are located in apartment buildings, duplexes and single-family homes. Rents range from $950-$2,100 depending on the number of bedrooms. Households with a rental voucher are encouraged to apply. This is an Equal Housing Opportunity.

Affordable rental units are safe and decent housing with reduced rents set for households under certain income levels. For most units, the program income limit is 80% of the area median income:

$74,800 for a household of one
$85,450 for a household of two
$96,150 for a household of three
$106,800 for a household of four
$115,350 for a household of five
$123,900 for a household of six

Some units have a slightly lower income limit of 65% of the area median income:

$62,205 for a household of one
$71,110 for a household of two
$80,015 for a household of three
$88,855 for a household of four
$96,005 for a household of five
$103,090 for a household of six

All applications must be delivered or mailed with a postmark to the Plymouth Redevelopment Authority, 26 Court Street, Plymouth, MA 02360 by May 29. Complete and qualified applications will be placed on the general waitlist in the order received.

Mary’s Closet is a ministry of Corpus Christi Parish operated by St. Vincent de Paul members and other members of the parish. The store sells gently used clothing, housewares, and jewelry at fantastic prices. The store is always in need of volunteers.

The food pantry is staffed by St. Vincent de Paul volunteers and has an
excellent variety of food, including meats.

The Starfish Story:
Making a Difference, One at a Time

A young man is walking along the ocean and sees a beach on which thousands and thousands of starfish have washed ashore. Further along he sees an old man, walking slowly and stooping often, picking up one starfish after another and tossing each one gently into the ocean. “Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” he asks. “Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in, they will die.”

“But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one-tenth of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won’t make any difference at all.” The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”
